Reduction Cooling the Cub Creek Foundation Anagama
April 18th at 6 a.am. - 20th until 11 a.m.
Front Stack: Cone 9 (2300°F) Back Stack: Cone 9 (right side), Cone 8 (left side) *the damper is pulled only from the left side of the kiln, causing the flame and heat to gravitate towards the right.
Reduction cooled to 1400°F over the course of 8 hours, attempting to maintain a consistent reduction atmosphere
While firing up to temperature, we primarily fueled the kiln with oak, pine, & cedar in the front firebox as well as the side stoke. During the cooling process, we used oak only.
Observations:
Metallic, ‘rainbow’ effects were predominantly found on burnished surfaces & clay bodies with small particle sizes or clay bodies with tight particle packing.

Jar loaded directly upon a crack in the floor of the front stacking area, adjacent to side-stoke mouse hole.
